Vaporizer & Cannabis Glossary
Plain-English definitions for the terms you'll see across vaporizers, glass, and concentrates. Each entry links to a deeper guide or the relevant products when there's more to learn.
5
- 510 Thread
- The universal screw thread connecting a cart or atomizer to a battery. Most cart batteries and pre-filled carts use it. Shop 510 batteries →
A
- Atomizer
- The heating element of a vaporizer — the coil or cup that converts power into heat. Replacement atomizers are a normal consumable. Replacement parts →
B
- Banger
- A bucket-shaped quartz attachment for a dab rig. Heated with a torch, then capped to vaporize concentrates. Browse glass →
- Bowl
- The part of a pipe, bong, or vaporizer that holds dry herb. Also refers to glass bowls that replace a device's default top. Browse glass →
- Bubbler
- A compact water-filtered piece — smaller than a bong but with percolation for smoother hits. Many e-rig glass tops are bubblers. Browse glass →
C
- Carb Cap
- A cap placed over a banger or chamber after loading, restricting airflow to lower the pressure and vaporize at lower temperatures. Shop tools & caps →
- Chamber
- The removable oven or heating cup in a vaporizer where material is loaded. Chambers wear out and are the most common replacement part. Replacement chambers →
- COA (Certificate of Analysis)
- A third-party lab report showing potency and contaminant test results for a product. Always check it before buying concentrates. How lab testing works →
- Conduction Heating
- Heating by direct contact between material and a hot surface. Fast heat-up, but can scorch material touching the walls if not stirred.
- Convection Heating
- Heating by hot air flowing through the material. Slower to heat but delivers more even extraction and purer flavor — found in premium devices like the Venty and Volcano. Shop flower vaporizers →
D
- Dab
- A dose of cannabis concentrate vaporized on a hot surface — usually a banger or an e-rig chamber.
- Dab Rig
- A water pipe designed for concentrates instead of flower. E-rigs are the electronic version with a built-in heated chamber. Shop e-rigs →
- Dab Tool
- A small paddle or scoop used to load concentrates without sticking to fingers. Available in stainless steel, titanium, wood, and glass. Shop dab tools →
- Decarboxylation
- The heat-activated reaction that converts THCA into THC. Vaporizers do this automatically at operating temperature.
- Dry Herb Vaporizer
- A device that heats ground flower to release vapor without combustion. Ranges from pen-style portables to desktop units. Shop dry herb vapes →
E
- E-Rig (Electronic Rig)
- An all-in-one electric dab rig: battery, heated chamber, and water filtration in one device. The Puffco Peak Pro and Focus V Carta Sport are leading examples. Shop e-rigs →
- Entourage Effect
- The theory that cannabinoids and terpenes work together synergistically, producing effects different from isolated compounds. Myth or science? →
- Extract / Concentrate
- Any product where cannabinoids and terpenes are separated from plant material — wax, shatter, rosin, live resin, and more. Shop extracts gear →
G
- Glass Top
- A removable glass attachment that replaces a device's default mouthpiece — adds water filtration and percolation to e-rigs like the Peak Pro. Shop Peak tops →
- Grinder
- A multi-chamber tool that breaks flower into even pieces for consistent vaporization. Kief catchers collect the finest resin glands. Shop accessories →
H
- Hot Knife
- An electrically heated dab tool tip that melts concentrates cleanly into a chamber — no torch, no mess. Shop hot knives →
- Hybrid Heating
- A combination of conduction and convection in one oven, aiming for convection flavor with conduction speed.
I
- ISO (Isopropyl Alcohol)
- The standard solvent for cleaning glass and chambers. Soak, shake, rinse with warm water, and air dry. Shop cleaning →
L
- Live Resin
- A concentrate extracted from fresh-frozen plants, preserving more terpenes than cured-material extracts.
- LOQ (Limit of Quantitation)
- The smallest amount of a substance a lab can reliably measure. On a COA, results below LOQ show as "<LOQ" or "ND". Read the LOQ guide →
M
- Mouthpiece
- The part you inhale from. Removable mouthpieces are common wear items on pens and portables. Shop accessories →
P
- Perc (Percolator)
- A glass structure that splits smoke or vapor through water for smoother hits. More slits and stacks generally mean smoother but more restricted draws.
R
- Rosin
- A solventless concentrate made with only heat and pressure. Prized for purity and full-spectrum flavor. Solventless science →
S
- Session Mode
- A device mode that holds temperature for a set window instead of single timed hits — common on Puffco and Focus V devices. Temperature guide →
- Solventless
- Extraction without chemical solvents — ice water hash, dry sift, and rosin. See our full guide for the science. Read the guide →
T
- Terp Pearls
- Small balls placed in a banger or chamber that spin with airflow, spreading concentrate evenly for better vaporization. Shop terp pearls →
- Terpenes
- Aromatic compounds in cannabis (and all plants) that shape flavor and modulate effects — myrcene, limonene, caryophyllene and more. Terpene guide →
- Torch
- A butane torch used to heat quartz bangers. Torch-free alternatives include e-rigs and electric hot knives. Shop tools →
- Trichomes
- The microscopic resin glands on cannabis flower that produce cannabinoids and terpenes. Frosty trichome coverage signals potency. Trichome guide →
V
- Vaporization
- Heating material below combustion point (~230°C / 446°F) to release cannabinoids in vapor instead of smoke — the core benefit of every device we sell. Vaping vs smoking →
W
- Water Pipe / Bong
- A glass piece that filters smoke through water. Sizes and percolation styles vary wildly — see our Glass 101 guide. Glass 101 →
